Saturday Soul: The Ordinary Moments
The ordinary moments we almost skip often become the ones we treasure most. Angie reflects on slowing down long enough to notice them.
Some of the moments we remember most were never supposed to be important.
They were just ordinary.
A cup of coffee before the day got busy. Sitting in the car talking longer than expected. A song playing while dinner was cooking. Somebody laughing in the next room. A quiet morning when nobody needed anything from you.
We spend so much of life waiting for the big moments that it is easy to miss the ones that are actually carrying us.
The Things We Almost Skip
Life in the middle years can be full. Work. Family. Health. Aging parents. Adult children. Grandchildren. Appointments. Plans. Lists.
There is always something that needs to be handled.
And because of that, we can start treating the ordinary parts of our lives like filler between the important things.
But those ordinary moments are often the important things.
I think about the conversations that happened around kitchen tables, the errands that turned into time together, and the evenings when nothing special happened except that everyone was home.
Those are the moments I treasure now.
Stay a Little Longer
I’m learning to slow down enough to notice them while they are happening.
Stay a little longer. Finish the coffee. Let the song play. Take the picture. Make the phone call. Sit on the porch. Laugh one more time before everyone leaves.
We don’t get to keep every season forever.
But we can be present for it.
The ordinary moments we almost skip often become the moments we treasure the most.
