What is Pacific44?

Pacific44 started with something very personal.

44 was my football number growing up in Waterloo, Iowa. At the time, it was simply a number on the back of a jersey. I couldn't have known that decades later it would come to represent something much bigger — the space between where we've been and where we're going next.

The Pacific part came later.

Life eventually took us west. Angie and I built careers, raised families, experienced successes, made mistakes, lost people we loved, started over more than once and learned a few things along the way.

And somewhere in our 50s, something changed.

The Journey to 60 and Beyond

We started looking at this stage of life differently.

For years, so much of life is about what's next. Building a career. Raising children. Paying bills. Buying homes. Meeting deadlines. Taking care of everybody else.

Then one day you look around and realize you've built a life.

The question becomes: What are you going to do with it?

For us, approaching 60 didn't feel like the beginning of the end. It felt like another beginning.

There were places we still wanted to see. Music we still wanted to hear. Stories we wanted to tell. Things we wanted to learn. Better care we wanted to take of our health. More time we wanted to spend with the people who mattered.

And maybe most importantly, we wanted to enjoy the journey getting there.

Not Perfect Lives. Positive Lives.

There is already plenty of negativity in the world. We didn't want to build another place that added to the noise.

Pacific44 is intentionally different.

This is a place for good stories, beautiful places, great music, useful information, honest conversations and people who believe there is still a lot of life left to live.

We'll talk about health and wellness. Retirement and money. Relationships. Travel. Hidden gems. Music. Food. Community. Reinvention. And sometimes we'll simply tell a story because it made us smile.

Some of it will come from our own lives. Some will come from people we meet. And some will come from places and ideas we think are worth sharing.

We're not experts on how to live the perfect life.

We're living it right alongside you.

Everybody Has a Pacific44

That's something I've come to believe.

Your Pacific44 may not involve the Pacific Ocean. It may be a lake in Iowa, a neighborhood you've lived in for 30 years, a road you've always wanted to travel, a song that takes you back, Sunday dinner with your family or finally giving yourself permission to try something new.

Pacific44 isn't really a destination.

It's a state of mind. A way of living. A community.

It's about appreciating where you've been without believing your best experiences have to stay behind you.

Angie and I are still figuring out what this next chapter looks like. That's part of the fun.

We're going to share that journey here — the wins, the discoveries, the memories, the people, the places and probably a few wrong turns along the way.

Because the journey isn't winding down.

We're finally learning how we want to travel it.
